The Experience Behind the Message

A lifetime of challenging expectations.

Born prematurely with cerebral palsy, Rene has spent her life questioning the limitations and expectations others placed on her.

Her perspective comes from more than three decades as an educator, her experiences as an athlete, her advocacy for inclusion, and the personal lessons explored in her books.

She understands that courage isn't always visible. Sometimes it means finishing a race. Sometimes it means speaking an uncomfortable truth, setting a boundary, or making a choice that changes the direction of your life.

A Turning Point

What if we discovered our possibilities earlier?

Rene was 44 when she discovered the benefits of working out, building physical strength, and better understanding what her body could do.

That experience helped shape her desire to advocate for young people with disabilities.

She wanted them to have opportunities to explore their strengths and discover their abilities at a younger age, rather than waiting until adulthood to recognize possibilities they had never been encouraged to explore.

Her involvement with Inclusion Infusion, a nonprofit initiative from approximately 17 years ago, reflected that commitment to encouraging opportunities and inclusion.

For Rene, the message extends beyond athletics: people deserve opportunities to discover their abilities without having their potential predetermined by others.
